A Taste of the Katha Upanishad
by Barbara Denempont

Life is truly full of surprises. Over twenty years ago, Gangaji sat down with Chris Mohr to record a conversation focused on the Katha Upanishad, one of the most beloved texts of the Vedas. It was intended to be the third installment in the Sacred Text Series, but it simply wasn’t to be at that time. The Katha piece was not completed, until now.

New technologies allowed us to repair and refurbish the Katha recordings and now we get to share them with you. What a treasure it has been for me to work with Chris Mohr and Tom Hoffman, listening once again to the voices of Gangaji, Chris, Eli Jaxon-Bear, and our dear friend, Amber Terrell who passed away in 2020 (She offers a beautiful reading of the Katha’s young hero, Nachiketas.)

As a listener, I can tell you there are moments of pure beauty emanating from the words being spoken. No topic is more potent than death and I love how this ancient text challenges us, teaches us and supports us in discovering ourselves to be Life itself.

One translation of the word Upanishad is “to sit close.” I invite you to take a minute to “sit close” with Gangaji and Chris for a brief taste of the essential revelations passed down to us through the Upanishads.

—Namaste, Barbara

“This is your resting place, your watering hole. Find what supports you, what includes you, and drink it in. Be nourished. Be enlivened. And when you feel thirsty again, drink some more.” —Gangaji
