Important Notice: As the impact of the Coronavirus continues to unfold, we are working to make good, informed, and practical decisions about Gangaji’s 2020 schedule of events. Given the current news, we have decided to cancel the remainder of Gangaji’s 2020 calendar of in-person events.
Santa Sabina is a unique, sacred space dedicated “to the contemplative way of being.” This oasis of quiet is a place to truly seek refuge in the silence of your own being. Retreat with Gangaji is a time to rest and retreat from any stories you may be telling about yourself, or definitions and identities you have constructed in your imagination. With self-inquiry, Gangaji draws your attention away from your thoughts and into the direct experience of what is always here and who you truly are – peace itself, consciousness itself. In the willingness to retreat from your search for just one moment, you can profoundly realize you are already home, already free. This is the secret that lies at the heart of retreat.
Throughout this retreat, Gangaji offers you her deepest support and guidance in meeting yourself fully.
During the retreat…
We will meet with Gangaji twice a day to ask questions and share reports. This retreat will be held in conversational silence – we speak only during the meetings with Gangaji. The daily schedule will also include meditation, video presentations, and other evening programs.
The quiet, cloistered spaces of Santa Sabina offer essential support for retreat from our daily lives while still being accessible to the Bay Area for non-residential participants. Our group will have exclusive use of this beautiful property, which includes a hermitage cabin, prayer room, art rooms, yoga room, library, a courtyard for eating and lounging on the grass, and a hammock!
Everyone is required to check in, whether your accommodations are on-site or off-site. Check-in is from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, August 19. Retreatants arriving after 6:30 PM will register after the meeting with Gangaji.

Conversational silence will begin upon rising Thursday morning and ends on the last full day of the retreat, Saturday at 6pm. This provides an opportunity for participants to connect verbally with one another, if they wish to. For those who desire to stay in silence, a silent dining area will be arranged, as well a recommended way to signal to others if you wish to remain in silence until the retreat fully ends the following day.
Parking
There is a small parking lot at Santa Sabina for residential retreatants, who will receive parking permits at registration. We will steer commuters to nearby parking at registration. We recommend that you arrange to car pool or ride share in order to limit the demand for parking.
Airports & Transportation
Santa Sabina is a little over an hour by car from either the San Francisco Airport or the Oakland Airport. To go by airport bus to the San Rafael Transit Center:
From the San Francisco Airport you can catch either the Marin Airporter or the Sonoma Airport Express. From the Oakland Airport, take the Sonoma Airport Express. You can take a short taxi, Lyft, or Uber ride from the drop off location or either company; however, the Sonoma Airport Express will drop you at the San Rafael Transit Center, which is a little less than a mile and a half away from Santa Sabina, so it it possible to walk.
